Oakmont Cravings: Busha’s Kielbasa & Kraut

Many of us are enjoying most of our meals at home these days, and with that change comes the challenge of figuring out what we want to cook and eat with our families. This new series we’re calling “Oakmont Cravings” will share with you some of our resident’s recommendations for delicious easy-to-prepare homecooked meals that will bring your family comfort during these uncertain times. 

Today’s Oakmont Cravings recipe is brought to us by Marianna – a resident of Oakmont Manor. Marianna was born in Poland and immigrated to the United States when she was sixteen. This recipe for Kielbasa & Kraut is a recipe that she brought with her and is a family favorite they make for all holidays. 

Busha’s Kielbasa & Kraut

Ingredients

  • 4lbs. Fresh or smoked kielbasa or sausage
  • 2 jars saurkraut (rinsed and drained)
  • 1 bag of dried mushrooms (dried Borowik caps)
  • Beef broth ( approximately 2 cups)
  • 1 pkg Mrs. Grass dry French onion soup

 

Instructions 

  1. Begin by boiling your kielbasa or sausage until cooked through and then transfer to a skillet to brown – then set aside.
  2. Chop the dried mushrooms and rehydrate in a bowl of water for a half-hour. 
  3. Rinse and drain the sauerkraut.
  4. Mix all ingredients together in a crockpot and cook on the “high” setting for four hours.
  5. Enjoy with your family! Delicious! Pyszne!

Oakmont Cravings: Frank’s Golumpki

Today’s Oakmont Cravings recipe is brought to us by Frank – a resident of Oakmont Parkway. Frank is quite the cook and has many great recipes to share.

Frank’s Golumpki

Ingredients

  • 1 large cabbage (or two small cabbages)
  • 1 pound of ground pork
  • 1/2 pound of ground beef (not lean)
  • 1 large onion
  • Pepper
  • 2 cans of Campbell’s tomato soup
  • 1 cup of rice

 

Instructions 

  1. Boil rice until tender and drain
  2. Chop onion, pepper, and combine with meat. Season well.
  3. Wrap tightly in cabbages and place in a dutch oven or oven-safe pot
  4. Cover with tomato soup and cook at 350 for 1 and 1/2 hours
  5. Enjoy with your family

Oakmont Cravings: Glenda’s Famous Chocolate Cake

This new series we’re calling “Oakmont Cravings” will share with you some of our resident’s recommendations for delicious easy-to-prepare homecooked meals that will bring your family comfort during these uncertain times. 

Today’s Oakmont Cravings recipe is brought to us by Glenda – a resident of Oakmont Livonia. Glenda’s chocolate cake recipe is world-famous and is a favorite of her friends and family!

Glenda’s Chocolate Cake

 

Ingredients

  • 1 large box of your favorite (or best quality) cake mix
  • 1 cup of small chocolate chips
  • Large chocolate chips
  • Chocolate frosting (homemade or store-bought)

 

Instructions 

  1. Make cake mix according to ingredients on the package
  2. Add chocolate chips into mix and bake
  3. Cover cake in frosting
  4. Arrange large chocolate chips in the frosting in circular pattern
  5. Enjoy with friends and family!
