Our top priority at Oakmont Senior Communities is always the safety and security of our residents and families, staff, and communities, and with the announcement of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in our area, we feel it is important to share the steps we are taking to protect the people we care about most.

Over the past several weeks as the impact of COVID-19 has expanded, our corporate office has been in contact with local health departments, the Michigan Assisted Living Association, and various other organizations for guidance on how to best prepare our staff and communities for any eventuality that may arise. All of these organizations agree: The precautionary policies and procedures already in place at Oakmont Communities, as well as the many new safeguards designed specifically to combat COVID-19, makes our organization extremely well prepared for anything that may come our way.

Though we do not anticipate any communicable illness events in our communities, your assistance is absolutely essential during this time. We ask that all residents, staff, and visitors utilize our hand sanitization stations when entering or leaving the building, the dining room, or any other common areas and wash their hands often with soap and water. Clean hands are an important factor in helping to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and we will be ensuring anyone who enters our communities are diligent about handwashing.

We are also asking that any potential visitor who is experiencing symptoms associated with serious illness (fever, cough, respiratory distress, runny nose, gastrointestinal distress), may have interacted with someone who has been infected, or has recently traveled via airplane or cruise immediately postpone their visit to our community to a later date.

Keeping communicable illness out of our buildings is a top priority and limiting visitor traffic will aid us in that effort. Effective immediately, everyone must enter through the front door, check-in with reception, sanitize their hands at our sanitization station, and ensure a temperature measurement under 99 degrees before proceeding through the community. Operational business hours will be between 8 am and 6 pm with lockdowns in effect at all other times and visitors under the age of 21 will not be permitted to enter at any time. If you have any questions about your eligibility to visit our community, please don’t hesitate to contact the Executive Director.

Though much remains to be learned about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), we do know that it is especially dangerous for older adults and those who may be immuno-compromised. Through our combined efforts and diligence, we can ensure that our communities remain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for everyone.

Please know that we are monitoring the situation in Michigan extremely closely, and will keep our residents and families updated with any future news.
